Jerry Davis, president and founder of the ATTOTCA, and Mike Gilbert,
executive director of the Alabama Indian Affairs Committee met in March with
officials of the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to ask
permission to place the signs on I565 at no cost to the taxpayers. The
ATTOTCA received permission and provided the funds for the project.
Davis said, "This is our biggest accomplishment yet." He said the
ATTOTCA
have worked several months on this project. Kerry Nesmith, of ALDOT, said
the signs will soon be erected as part of a three sign cluster, along with
an Appalachian Corridor and a standard Interstate 565 marker.
